The Big Brothers Big Sisters Art Program is dedicated to offering creative albeit structured activities for matches to do together. In addition to offering matches something fun and different to do, each project aims to address social and emotional growth for youth. The Art Program has its own fund that is used for supplies and project development so that the matches don’t have to worry about cost. The Art Program hosts activities at sites and at events such as the Community Holiday Party and Summer Picnic. The Art Program also aims to connect matches to creative outlets in the community. Recently, some community-based matches participated in activities at Clay Time and Technocopia. If you would like to learn more about the Art Program, or have any suggestions/ feedback, feel free to contact the Art Program director, Robyn Lilly, at Robyn.Lilly@bbbscm.org.
Often during evaluations and match-support meetings, BBBS staff become aware of situations in which a child or their family need more services in addition to mentoring, so we created BBBS C.A.R.E.S. (Creating Access to Resources and Emergency Support). Through this initiative, we can connect our families with other supportive agencies that provide critical items needed by families, such as food, clothing, emergency loans, holiday help and other support to help get them through challenging times. By providing these types of services to the families engaged with Big Brothers Big Sisters, we aim to decrease the stresses that children may experience at home. Our referral service partners are Cradles to Crayons and Axuda to provide the resources some of our families desperately need.
Let's Go Big
Let’s Go Big was a brand new program offered in 2019. The Let’s Go Big program is designed to provide matches an opportunity to experience new and exciting outdoor activities that they may not have a chance to experience otherwise. The goal is to help our Littles learn to appreciate the environment, disconnect from technology, and gain confidence. In 2019, matches who participated in Let’s Go Big hiked several mountains including Wachusett and Monadnock, learned how to kayak, and went on a bicycle ride. The matches loved spending time with other matches and experiencing something new together.
Mentoring Youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics
Our MySTEAM Program aims to inspire our youth to engage in STEAM subjects in a safe and fun way, to enrich our already existing matches, and to draw in new volunteers and partners interested in the STEM field and the arts. We provide STEM activity ideas and kits, site programs, traveling demonstrations, and partnerships with STEM corporations and professionals to augment the proven work of BBBS.
