Big Brothers Big Sisters, founded in 1904, is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States. Locally, Big Brothers Big Sisters has provided quality mentoring services since 1963, when an increasing need for mentors in the Worcester area led to the establishment of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Worcester County, Inc. Ben Ticho was appointed Executive Director of the agency in 1978 and remains in this position today.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Middlesex, Inc., founded in 1973, merged with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Worcester County on June 30, 2004, creating Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest. Our new agency represents over forty towns, stretching from Natick to Sturbridge and from Acton to Hopkinton. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest has increased efficiency by updating technology and hiring specialists to interview volunteers, perform reference checks, and match children with compatible mentors, rather than having a single caseworker handle such tasks. Our new agency’s capacity to make a positive difference in the lives of more children in an efficient manner brings us closer to our goal of providing a mentor for every child in need.
